Certior Capital becomes first Finnish member of Initiative Climate International and commits to action on climate change

HELSINKI – As world leaders come together in Glasgow for the COP 26 summit, Certior Capital is pleased to announce that it has recently become a member of Initiative Climate International (iCI). In joining iCI, Certior will benefit from being part of a formally endorsed, global and collaborative initiative to assess and limit private equity’s exposure to climate change risk. iCI was originally formed following COP 21 in November 2015 by a group of five French private equity firms who decided to come together to contribute to achieving the objective of the Paris Agreement, to limit global warming to well-below two degrees and to pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5 degrees.

Certior is highly committed to responsible business practices and good corporate governance and in striving to support responsible investment to create long term sustainable growth and a more prosperous world for all. As a pioneering private markets investor, Certior recognises that it has significant influence not only in its own investment practices and day to day activities but in actively encouraging both meaningful and positive engagement on environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters by its many investment partners across Europe.

Ari Jauho, Chairman of Certior Capital, believes this is another important step for the company. “Having signed up to the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) back in 2018 we have continually sought to raise the bar on ESG issues and in so doing to encourage the mutual long term success of our business, that of our international partners and investors and, indeed, of society as a whole”, he comments. “We are now delighted to become the first Finnish member of Initiative Climate International. We fully recognize that climate change will have adverse effects on the global economy, which presents both risks and opportunities for investors. We will join forces to contribute to the objective of The Paris Agreement to limit global warming to well-below two degrees celsius and will actively engage with our portfolio companies and investment managers to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to an overall improvement in sustainability performance”.
